Working With Resin Parts

🚀 The Hobby is Evolving — And We’re Here For It

3D printing has completely transformed the scale modeling world — unlocking insane detail, creative freedom, and custom parts we could only dream of a few years ago. What used to take months to sculpt or cast can now be prototyped, printed, and shared with builders around the world in days.

At Model Maker’s Workshop, we’re proud to be part of that shift. We’re not just keeping up with the hobby — we’re helping shape its future, one resin part at a time. Whether you're building straight from the box or crafting wild custom creations, we're here to make sure your resin-building experience is smooth, safe, and fun.

🛠️ Recommended Prep

These tips are for our resin parts only — results may vary with parts from other vendors.

  1. Wash all parts using warm water and liquid dish soap.
(Avoid hand soaps — some have moisturizers that mess with paint adhesion.)

  2. Let them air dry — no sunbathing yet!

  3. Carefully sand off any support marks or layer lines.
⚠️ Safety First: Resin dust is no joke — always wear a dust mask or respirator while sanding, and work in a well-ventilated area.

  4. Fill pinholes or imperfections as needed.

  5. Wash again after sanding, then dry completely.

  6. Prime it up! A good primer lays the foundation for killer paintwork.

  7. Paint however you like — airbrush, spray can, or brush-on.

🔧 Helpful Tips & Resin Tricks

  • Got a warped part? Warm it up with hot (not boiling) water, reshape it gently, then lock it in place with a cold-water dip.
(Don’t try to bend it cold — it could snap!)

  • Occasionally a part might feel tacky — totally normal. Just make sure it’s dry after washing, then leave it in sunlight for 5–7 minutes to finish curing.

  • Some pieces may still be on their support tree — use sprue cutters for a clean removal.

  • Our parts are 3D printed in resin. Some are fragile, so take your time and enjoy the process.

  • Use any CA glue or super glue for assembly — no fancy stuff required.

  • We don’t include instructions, but our pictures are there to guide you. And if you hit a snag? Reach out — we’re happy to help.
